What are people saying about the Dahlem Reading Fluency Study?

"How can you put into a few words getting a pair of glasses that allows you to see, for the first time...? To read, without re-reading several times for minimal comprehension, for the first time in 36 years AND even enjoy it?"
- adult study participant who is an M.D.

"How can you begin to explain about the day that changed your life? When I read without the glasses, it is halting and deliberate; but when I read with them...WOW!"
- adult study participant who is an award winning teacher

"These glasses have changed not only our child"s life, but the life of our whole family. Her grades reflect her new found abilities. She has more confidence in herself. I only wish that she had these lenses earlier in her education and not had to struggle the way she did.""
- mother of a child study participant

"When my daughter was asked to read, I felt sorry for her as her reading is very poor and she labored to say practically every word. However, when she was given the lens and then asked to read the words again, she read the words more fluently than I have ever heard her read. The problem that my daughter has silently suffered for all of her life could be corrected with a special lens."
- mother of a child study participant

How does the RAD Prism address the symptoms of dyslexia that cause difficulty in reading fluency and comprehension?

The RAD Prism is a patented invention to address the symptoms of dyslexia which cause difficulty in mastering reading fluency and comprehension.  Dyslexia Solutions Inc. is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation whose mission is to asess the nature and degree of effectiveness of Dr. Robert Dahlem's patented RAD Prism in alleviating the common symptoms of dyslexia in readers experiencing difficulties in attaining reading proficiency and fluency. Dyslexia Solutions Inc. will share results from the use of the RAD Prism and how well it helps people of all ages perceive the written word correctly and consistently.

The RAD Prism is not a prescription and provides no correction for near sightedness or far sightedness or any other known medical condition treated by a licensed optometrist or opthamologist.  It simply redirects light to the inside of the right eye which receives deficient light energy resulting from facial assymetry that is found to be common in people who have symptoms of dyslexia. The Dahlem Reading Fluency Study is collecting anecdotal evidence from individuals and collecting data from schools that are using the RAD Prism with their students.  Schools typically are collecting reading fluency/comprehension pre-data, having the student use the RAD Prism for a couple of weeks, then collecting post data using research based assessments such as DIBELS, AIMSWEB CBM, Gates-MacGinity, etc.

The specially-designed patented prism is a new invention for people with symptoms of dyslexia, the result of Dr. Dahlem's five years of observation, research, and direct work with problem readers with symptoms of dyslexia.

To try the RAD Prism, click on "About the Study" where you have the option to sign up on line with secure credit card payment, or you can print off the participation form and mail or fax to Dyslexia Solutions.  Participants in the study will receive this unique prism design which is mounted in an eyeglass frame for ease of use.  The RAD Prism is on the right and clear plastic is on the left side of the eyeglass frame.  Instructions for how to determine if the RAD Prism is working are included in a kit with two sizes of RAD Prism.  The person will know within 30 minutes if the RAD Prism is improving their ability to perceive the written word correctly and consistently.  Depending on the age of the person, it might take longer to measure an improvement in reading fluency, commonly it has taken 10-12 week for elementary age students and shorter amounts of time for older students who are better able to report how the RAD Prism reduces the causes of slow and laborious reading due to dyslexia.

Ninety-seven percent of the initial 300 study participants reported reading improvement in their symptoms of dyslexia. A group of sixth graders, reading behind grade level, improved their reading level by an average of three years in a nine-month period when using the prism lens.  As of November 2007, over 1,000 people are using the RAD Prism to address their symptoms of dyslexia in the Kentucky region and across the United States, all from word of mouth referrals.

A Kentucky middle school conducted a study during the 2006-2007 school year targeting forty four students who were reading several years behind their expected reading level and had symptoms of dyslexia.  These students used the RAD Prism during normal reading instruction for six months and the sixth graders recorded an average growth of 586 lexiles as measured by the Scholastic Reading Inventory.  If you are interested in seeing if students at your school can benefit from the use of the RAD Prism, click on "About the Study" and print off the order form for schools and mail to us with a purchase order or check.  If you would like to conduct a more extensive study, contact us via email at cbaumert@readfluent.com.

The RAD Prism can be returned to Dyslexia Soltutions for a full refund of the participation fee if the participant no longer wants to use the RAD Prism.  Please see our Frequently Asked Questions section of the website by clicking on "FAQ" and view news clips of people who are using the RAD Prism by clicking on "News/Media".
